Wedding Video Kilkenny 2015

A post by Abbey Video Productions Tipperary & Kilkenny

The 9th Of January 2015 was one of my many January weddings in Kilkenny, of course, not forgetting my own county as well of Tipperary. It was a  cold day for sure, but for Maria & Adrian it was their wedding day in Kilkenny at the  SET  theatre  in Langtons hotel. As normal, my day started with a call to Maria and the girls at her home on the Kells Road – just a short drive from Kilkenny city – to capture some of the excitement of the morning. With hair being done and make-up being applied, it was all hands on deck. Once I had captured lots of fun footage, I moved on to Langton’s Hotel to get the lads arriving, along with all the guests, and to capture the little details in the fantastic Set Theatre where the ceremony was taking place. The Set Theatre is a popular venue with not only Kilkenny brides, but couples from all over Tipperary, Kilkenny, and Carlow.

A little bit about the SET Theatre before we move on: Constructed in 2009, it is a state-of-the-art venue which can hold 252 people seated and 380 standing/seated. A multi-purpose room which can cater for music acts, comedy, film and conferencing and of course weddings. The visually stunning interiors along with tasteful furnishings speak volumes about how greatly expanded the Langton brand has become over the years. Designed by the David Collins Studio in London, this is their flagship theatre and have pulled out all the stops to make it the most beautiful and talked about venue in the country.

After the ceremony, we went into Bridie’s Bar & General Store, again, part of Langtons Hotel, where we got some fantastic video footage and photographs in the old shop. Maria and Adrian were a really fun couple on the day, along with their bridal party. After the fun and photographs, they hosted a fantastic meal for the large number of guests. It’s great in this weather to be lucky enough to get so many local weddings in Tipperary and Kilkenny., and, of course, Sean in Langton’s  is a great asset to the hotel. He’s also helpful to me while filming. There with odd nod when something is about to start, or with the lights so thanks to Sean for that! Also, it’s great to be on their list as a supplier of wedding videographers in and around the Kilkenny and Carlow areas. So, the very best of luck to Maria and Adrian, and many thanks to them for choosing Abbey Video Productions as their wedding videographer for their special day.

Of course, Langton’s  is not the only hotel I visit on my video projects. I work all over Kilkenny in all the other hotels and I can say I would not have a bad word to say about any of them. All true professionals along the way. My next call is to the New Park hotel  in two weeks time, so I’m looking forward to that as well. It is the wedding of a lovely couple — a mix of Tipperary and Kilkenny, so it should be great fun! Now, have a look at my face book to keep track of my travels and, of course, some great wedding video package prices , They are the best prices you will find in Tipperary and Kilkenny. Just give me a call and see for yourself … Now, back to some editing and more coffee. 🙂  ~ Joe

Yesterday evening I took  two local wedding DVD bookings for the Tipperary / Kilkenny areas for 2015, which incidentally looks to be another great year. It’s funny the way wedding bookings have changed in the last year or so. Couples often booked a bit nearer the date of their wedding, I guess due to budget constraints of the last  few years or so, but of late they are booking one and two years in advance – which  I’m not complaining about!  It’s great to see there’s maybe some confidence in our country’s economy again.  There is always something nice about a local wedding – working with the people you see every day.  And getting lots of referrals from local  couples, having viewed their completed wedding DVDs , is worth its weight in gold.  Talking about gold, price is not too much of a problem any more when brides or grooms enquire regarding a wedding video package.  I remember not too long ago the BIG question was HOW MUCH??.. Well that’s like asking how long is a piece of string?!  Everywedding  DVD is different as regards the needs of the couple let it be price, the type of package they might want or the amount of coverage.  I have often said to couples my price starts at  €400 and they can build on that and sure enough they do – 90% of them go for my top package, which starts at the Bride’s home and includes a  selection of dances that evening, giving fantastic coverage and huge value for their money.  On the other hand I have lots of weddings over the different borders such as Kilkenny, Waterford, Carlow, Limerick and Cork, and it’s like all wedding venues – it’s nice to visit these place as well and get to know new people at the weddings. Of course getting more referrals  along the way via the internet  is a huge part of business these days but word of mouth is most ingratiating.wedding

rsz_dsc01053-300x169 Speaking of local weddings, I was filming  a wedding with  Selina O’Meara on Friday  last in Lisvernane Church just outside Tipperary town.  I met Selina  again just last week in the  Abbey Court Hotel in  Nenagh.  Selina is a fantastic wedding photographer, so quick off the mark and achieving  stunning  photography as she goes.  We were discussing wedding videography and photography and the way things have changed over time – for the better I think as people have become more price conscious and shop around a bit more for better value.  But it’s not always about getting a cheap wedding video or  cheap wedding photographs, you also have to think of the end product, which I sometimes remind clients of.  So by all means shop around, but the cheapest is not always a good idea, after all you will still want to play your wedding DVDs in 20 years time or maybe in 40 years your children will take it out and have a look at the fashions of  2014 /15/16 and so it is of utmost importance to have your wedding day filmed by a professional wedding videographer / photographer.

A little  something  I have been reading up on of late is  Moposa – see it here on the link  http://www.aherlowhouse.ie/moposa.html    ok a little insight to it ….

Moposa enables you to share more of the wedding  details with family and friends both at home and abroad should you wish to  simplify the planning process and save time and money along the way.  Some of the fantastic tools that are provided through Moposa include your own guest list manager, personal-URL wedding website with online RSVP, budget planner, guest text messaging and ‘drag-n-drop’ seating  planning for the function rooms. You can even import guests from you face book!  I just thought it was a great little wedding  planingtool.

Questions To Ask Your Wedding Photographer:

Questions To Ask Your Wedding Photographer:

Over the years of working withphotographers at weddings here inTipperary and all over Ireland I have found that 90% of photographers really go above the call of duty on the day but some don’t!  So it is well worth while to ask them a few questions; it’s like booking a wedding videographer – make sure you view some work they have done.  When a bride makes an enquiry to me at Abbey Video for wedding videography I try and match a sample of the ceremony with where they are getting married and also the hotel they are planning to use on their wedding day. This way they can see for themselves what it might look like on their wedding day and get a feel for it.

So you need to ask your photographer have you ever shot a wedding at the venue location before.

Style is a huge part of photography in my view.  Are they going to be posed & formal, relaxed, photojournalistic, candid, traditional or reportage.

Will you receive  both  colour and black and white prints?  Colour of course goes without saying but black and white is also a must as it has that timeless look about it.

Will you have backup equipment available – very important as well.

Now a dodgy one!… Can other people take photos while you are taking photos?  Some photographers don’t like people standing behind them covering all the well posed shots.  Sometimes this can make his job more difficult as guests can be calling out to the bridal party and this  might upset the pose he has set up, that’s why they often take the bridal party away to a location and let the guests off to the hotel.
How many photos come in each package is also a good thing to know!

Should the event last longer than scheduled, will you stay?  Extra charge?  This is like asking how long is a piece of string – while most weddings are roughly the same run time,  some couples like their photographer to stay to photograph the speeches or even in later times the dancing so it’s worth asking them this.

Do you have liability insurance?  This is a must as well – should you wish to have your photos taken in an OPW site like the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, Kilkenny Castle and a lot more, your photographer must have insurance.  Without it you don’t get to have your photos inside the site.

Can you give them a list of specific photos you want taken.

How long after your wedding will the proofs be ready – again this is worth asking as during busy times this can take a few weeks / months.

Do they provide a written contract?

Do they charge you for travel ?

Is a deposit required?  If so, how much?

When is the remaining balance after deposit due?

Are there any additional charges not mentioned?

What time will you arrive?

I think experience in wedding photography is the most important point that should be asked before hiring a photographer.  Anyone can grab a camera, go out and take photographs of a flower or a field but a wedding day is totally different!    Hope this little bit of knowledge is helpful  for you     ~ Joe

Wedding suppliers for Tipperary

Wedding suppliers for Tipperary

Brides In Munster

Did you know there are so many wedding suppliers on the net, a quick search and up pops about 1200 pages! Everything from flowers, cakes, dresses, videographers, photographers, and bands, but over 50% of these are based in Dublin. So if your from Tipperary Waterford Wexford and the likes these suppliers are going to charge you extra to have the honour of supplying you a service for your wedding. Have you ever checked out weddings on line, mrs2b and the likes? Ok they have great supplier sites but again over 50% of their advertisers are up the country and the few that need to advertise with them locally are well… pricey because they have to pay for that pleasure and that cost is factored into the price you get when you enquire for their service this is a fact!

We at Brides in Munster don’t charge our suppliers and never will, so there is no add on price when you use one of the suppliers from our site even better we recommend they give you a little off the price when you book them from our site.
