Merry Christmas from Abbey Video Productions

brides in tipperaryWell, it’s that time of year again, when I look back and say a big thank you to all my customers and to my friends the wedding suppliers we have met throughout the year, and of course to the hotels that have looked after us and feed us along the way. It’s been a great year for weddings, along with other video work. This time of the year, it’s school show after school show most nights of the week! Cashel, Tipperary Town, Clonmel schools, shows in Kilkenny of course and a few in Waterford. It’s great to see the pupils perform, both for the camera and for their teachers and parents. Each year, it’s great to get the phone call or the e-mail opening with “Please, Joe, tell us you’re free to video our show again this year. The parents and the children are still raving about last year’s production you captured for us!” Below is just a little Christmas jingle I uploaded..

Tipperary Hotels for your wedding

DSC08130This week’s article is about a great hotel for your wedding day in Tipperary.

Over the years filming wedding videos I have come across some fabulous hotels and this week is all about  the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh, Co Tipperary.

The Great National Abbey Court Hotel is one of Ireland’s landmark 3* hotels, located in Nenagh, a town bursting with life and steeped in history.

From the moment you step inside the Great National Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh you’ll find Irish hospitality, professionalism and individual service only matched by a breath-taking array of business and leisure facilities. The hotel is one of the finest Wedding Venues in Tipperary and also boasts top class Conference facilities. This is all wrapped up in the hotel’s quirky features: from an oasis that is the Great National Abbey Court’s extensive gardens to family friendly facilities that are the envy of hotels nationwide.

As a videographer I get to see how things operate on a wedding day behind the scenes so to speak!  When I arrive to the Abbey Court on the day of a wedding I am greeted by Ray, the Deputy Manager, and right away Ray will fill me in on the proceedings of the evening while we await the arrival of the bride and groom.  At this point guests are enjoying a fantastic selection of sandwiches, mouth-watering scones and of course the life-saver: tea & coffee! I must say the food for the guests as they arrive sometimes after a long drive is very welcome and appetising!

When the newly married couple arrive Ray is on hand to greet them with red carpet and champagne.  From here the couple are lead in to the hotel to mingle with their guests and at this point it’s my chance to get some great footage of the couple chatting and relaxing with their guests.  Soon after this their photographer will take the couple to the fabulous gardens the Abbey Court has on offer for some family and friends photographs. I also get some quality fly-on-the-wall footage at this point.

It’s then time for me to go to the wedding reception room to film the little details the couple might have placed on tables etc.  The room layout is always impeccable – clean, well laid out, with fantastic mood lighting and not a saucer  out of place!

Time to call in the guests!  The Abbey Court makes sure no one is waiting for their meal as the bell is rang in good time – this is a sign of a well ran hotel with a great team.  The couple are applauded into the room with their favourite piece of music which can be great fun.  Ray is on the ball when it comes to wedding suppliers, especially videographers – he makes sure we are tuned into the hotel system so our audio is 100% for the speeches and also makes sure we are present at the important times, he will come looking for us!

I hope my small article on this great hotel has done it justice.  Of course The Abbey Court is there for a lot more use than just weddings, I’m told it’s a fantastic hotel to stay in and I know from experience that the food is top class. And the staff?   Well I will put it simply … 100% award winning team!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my visits to the Abbey Court, and if you are planning on getting married in this great hotel and would like to see a sample of a wedding I have filmed there please get in touch.

Only the best for your wedding

Hi all, and welcome to this month’s wedding blog. I’m Joe at Abbey Video Productions.

Wedding suppliers Kilkenny
Wedding suppliers Kilkenny

When I started wedding videos here in Tipperary and Kilkenny, the cameras were BIG with a large cassette in. Thankfully, those times have passed and technology has moved on. My new cameras are Sony pxw- x180s. These cameras are so easy to carry, are lightweight and have much more flexibility. They are also much less obtrusive which is very important on a wedding day.

The use of SxS mem cards means less storage space is needed, and drop out from the old VHS tapes are long gone. HIGH quality is very important to me as a videographer here in Tipperary and Kilkenny, along with low lighting. Capability is a must, as no one likes a video light; again these days are gone.

Editing systems : Where do I start? And do you really need to know all the technology of it? Probably not! But let me give you a quick overview. I use two editing systems — Vegas Pro 13 and, of course, the old faithful Pinnacle Studio 14 HD for smaller projects. The editing system is only as good as the camera person: If your shots are not framed right or are shaky, no editing system will fix it 100%. So that’s where expertise in filming comes into play. But, of course, what’s a wedding video without a few nice, gentle special effects. That being said, I don’t like to overdo them, as they look tacky. I have seen some wedding videos with butterflies floating around the screen, or some gold dust falling over the bride as she walks in a park … tacky!

Classic_Mass_Booklet3Well its not new, but  Flash drives with your full wedding along with chapters have  now been in for a while I have delivered some weddings on them and the quality is fantastic, but not every household  has a  TVs with a flash drive slot so the good old DVD is here for a while yet, but the Flash drives will soon be our main format for delivery The reason is that it will allow us to supply your wedding footage  in  broadcast high definition quality, all my weddings are recorded  with the very latest Sony pxw- x180 cameras so its time to make the change and let couples really enjoy better than 100% quality.

Where can this all happen:

While I am based in Tipperary, but I also have a huge clientele in Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford, Wexford, and everywhere around Ireland, really you could find me anywhere.

Tipperary is, of course, my local area and I love local weddings. It’s great to be asked back to film a wedding for a family that I have all ready worked for. That’s ‘word of mouth’ and the BEST way to do business. Kilkenny is my next area, as it was in the Kilkenny/Carlow area that I filmed one of my first weddings. Only last week, I was in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow with the reception in  Mount Wolseley   but, as I said, I love to film. So wherever your wedding is, give me a call and let’s chat about your special day. After all, I do have the experience.

Light up Letters, Trend at Irish weddings ?

brides in tipperary weddings in munsterOver the years of filming wedding videos all over Ireland, trends come and go, from the Chocolate Fountain, the sweet cart and now, Light up Letters these letters can say anything you wish, from welcoming your guests to  your wedding, to the all important word LOVE .For all couples, their wedding day is a unique and memorable occasion. No matter how many weddings they may go to as guests, no day will ever be as amazing as theirs.

However for guests, a lot of weddings that they go to can feel pretty similar and not that unique at all. Now on one hand, this isn’t really an issue for prenuptial couples to worry about as it’s their special day after all, but how can they help to make the day just as memorable for their guests as it is for them? At many Irish weddings these days as I have seen in areas like Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow and Waterford there is a growing trend of light up letters taking centre stage in the function room. and yes it look great! These dazzling displays are proving to be a wonderful addition to many weddings across Ireland and for videography companies like Wedding Videographers Kilkenny  there are no problems capturing the magnificence of these lights and incorporating them into the wedding videos that I produce for happy couples.

wedding-accommodationThe light up letters come in a range of sizes so for couples who are looking for a discreet display there are small options available which are ideal for the top table at the wedding meal. However for the bride and groom who really want to dazzle their guests, large light up letters which are ideal for placing at the front of the dance floor are being more commonly hired in many parts of Ireland, including Tipperary and Kilkenny.
These larger letters are approximately 5 ft tall so they’re certainly big enough to be easily seen but not so large that they become obtrusive.
For many brides and grooms it is understandable that they will want their wedding venue to be set up in advance without the need to make alterations during the day. However should they wish to then it’s not a big job as the light up letters are easily mobile due to their surprisingly light weight. They are also versatile and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use so they can be appreciated whatever the weather. If the bride and groom are looking for outdoor photographs at night with a stunning backdrop then these lights are ideal. Equally, if they want them moved from the edge of the dance floor during the evening to make more space then this is also easily done due to their lightweight construction.

The light up letters provide a stunning background scenery which guests will be queuing up to take photographs of and will remember long after the big day.Experienced videography professionals such as Wedding Videographers Kilkenny  can seamlessly highlight the light up letters in their footage so that the bride and groom will have a permanent reminder of their special day that they can hold on to forever. So if you are planing your special day give me a call or drop me an e-mail and we can discuss your wedding video let tit be in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Waterford Carlow or indeed any  county in Ireland.   http://ibride.com/vendors/810359/abbey-video-productions/

Hope my blog was someway helpful to you in your planing for that special day ~ Joe

Till debt do us part / wedding videography

Its a short piece  of writing for you  this week as i’m so busy between, weddings, editing, for every county around especially  Tipperary & Kilkenny  but its all local work so all is good! But I  found this last week and thought it might make some interesting reading, Over the years of filming wedding videos in Tipperary / Kilkenny  and all over Ireland I get to see some  fantastic wedding days, from the Engagement party  right up to when the bride and groom dance the night away with family and friends on the big day. Its a pleasure to be part  of a couples wedding day to be among their family’s and friends for quite a number of hours on the day and some times for the Engagement party! But I did write a little about wedding and the way they change over the years but this post touches on the prices, which in these times is a BIG factor with all the costs so have a read and please comment and give me your thoughts.

The web: The web is now the main part and plays a huge part for couples planning their wedding , Google is a great friend to all to find wedding suppliers, get prices, information, and try and get some help with that dreaded  speech. Google even has a wedding planning site to help you with your wedding you can see it here , even for  us wedding suppliers Google and the web is a powerful tool to have at our fingertips, when you type in wedding video Tipperary orKilkenny I am number one in the Organic search for wedding videos, this I am very proud of !  so get clicking and find you wedding suppler in your local area. They say you can’t put a price on wedded bliss, but €24,000 is a start. Yes, this is the amount that the average couple spent on getting married last year. There are several reasons for this, including the honeymoon, venue and décor. Here are a few other interesting facts about the change in trends for the big day:

Engagement:

Brides In Tipperary - abbey video
Brides In Tipperary

The length of time for which a couple are engaged has become shorter. In 2012, most couples were engaged for at least 2 years before getting married. However, last year, the majority waited just 13-18 months. As well as this, almost one in four couples live together for at least five years before walking up the aisle. On average, brides are getting married in their late twenties, while grooms are in their early thirties.

Winter Wedding:

DSC02152December is now the most popular month to get engaged, with February following behind.Abbey Video  have filmed some lovely Weddings over the years, the lovely crisp light, the shadows and the frosty blue skies. The hotels ready for Christmas with their decorations, and of course the mulled wine.

Walking Up the Aisle:

DSC05602Although up to a quarter of couples shun a church wedding, it is still the most popular venue in which to hold a wedding.  In years gone by Churches were the place to get wed now you can  get married anywhere you like to a certain extent, and it’s nice for people that are not religious  to have this choice.

Speeches:

rsz_dsc01067-300x169-150x150

Even though it is still the main preference to have the speeches after the meal, popularity is increasing for having the speeches before the meal as everyone is more relaxed and can enjoy their dinner better.  Speeches they say should be like a mini skirt… long enough to cover the  essentials  but short enough to keep you interested, and it’s true, people do tend to want to get up after a large feed and walk around a bit before the dancing starts, but if your speeches go on too long  it’s hard to keep them entertained. The typical number of guests sitting for the meal is 101-150, with an approximate price range of €35 – €60 per head.  ( I remember doing a video a few years back and there were 380 sitting down for the meal!

Reception Venue:

Abbey Video Productions
Abbey Video Productions
Civil Partnership Kilkeny

Although hotels remain the top choice for couples as their wedding reception venue, other choices are available and popular among couples.  These include country houses, which host more than 20 percent of Irish weddings, as well as restaurants.  We have some fantastic hotels here in Tipperary with the likes of Clonmel Park,  Hotel Minella Clonmel, Raheen House,  then just over the border in Kilkenny you have  The Newpark Hotel, the Ormond Hotel, and a lot more.

“How much”, I hear you ask?   read on ……..

They tell us an average wedding cost €24,000

Ok so what costs  all this money?  Well below is the average amount spent on various aspects of a wedding:

Venue : €9,825

Band: €1,850

DJ : €350

Photographer: €1,435

Videographer : €850

Wedding dress:  €1,570

Bridesmaid dresses : €550

Suits : €626

Ceremony music: €415

Wedding car: €420

Make up €265

Hair and others  €235

Jewellery €510

Wedding cake : €340

Flowers  €615

Favours €225

Candles €125

Hen / Stag : €500

Honeymoon: €4950

Extras : €1,170

And don’t think you will be finished with just the above, as your wedding day draws near there is always some thing that crops up, so make a budget and stick to it!

Civil Ceremony Alternatives;

Brides In Tipperary - abbey video
Brides In Tipperary

After All, Your Big Day Deserves more than the Registrar’s Office.
Getting married is one of life’s biggest events and every couple wants it to be as memorable as possible for all the right reasons.
Now of course there is nothing wrong with a traditional civil ceremony and after all, the most important part of the day is the actual marriage itself, although, I have filmed a lot of Civil ceremony’s In and around Tipperary and Kilkenny and getting hitched in a registrar’s office may not be the most romantic of settings or the day you’ve always dreamed of. Your wedding is something that you (hopefully) will only be doing once so it’s worth making that extra effort to ensure the day is as special and unique to you as possible. The following alternative ceremonies will give you a brief idea of how you can make the day that little bit more special.

Brides In Munster, irish wedding videographer, munster wedding video, Tipperary Wedding News, Wedding DVD Cashel, Wedding Video North Tipperary, Wedding Videographer Thurles, Wedding Videos Tipperary
                         Wedding suppliers

The Possibilities are endless there are now more ways than ever for brides and grooms to mark their special day and these alternative ceremonies are becoming ever more popular around the world and especially in Ireland
A ‘knot tying’ ceremony
One of the most unique alternatives is known as a ‘knot-tying’ ceremony. Here, the couple can demonstrate their combined strength by tying a fisherman’s knot. Getting tighter with pressure this knot is meant to signify a couple’s strength. Ideally the material used in this ceremony should have some significance, for example a strip of cloth from the dress that the bride wore on the first date if possible. Every ceremony is unique so it is entirely up to the happy couple but this is certainly one idea which is becoming more popular.
Other alternatives

wedding video tipperary Brides In Tipperary
                Tipperary Weddings

Another alternative which is becoming increasingly popular is a sand ceremony. In this ceremony, the couple mix two different colours of sand into one container which symbolises their hearts and lives becoming entwined. The fact that it is extremely difficult to separate the two colours once they have been mixed is also highly significant as this is a reflection of the couple being joined together and unable to be separated.
A water ceremony works in much the same way as a sand ceremony with each partner having a container of coloured water which is unique to them and then pouring it into one joint container, therefore symbolising unity and togetherness.

brides_choice_awards_finalist_fb_profile_360x360_2015_v2A Lasting Memento
As your wedding day is such a unique and special occasion it is well worth having a memento which will last forever and I can make that memory last forever so no matter where your getting married let it be  Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow or Waterford or anywhere in Ireland my packages are designed to suit you in terms of style and budget. Videography companies like Abbey Video Productions have experience in recording all manner of ceremonies, indoors and outdoors and in various locations so wherever your ceremony takes place, I can record it without any problems.

Well I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, and a lovely time with family and friends as I did.  Wedding Video Bookings for 2016 are pouring in the last few days. Even January this year is as busy as July! It’s something I have never encountered before but is great to see. Even  2017  is well booked at the moment and  2018 is starting already. Throughout the year, I have had to recommend some well heeled colleagues of mine to brides for whom I was booked for their date. If I am booked, I don’t just send them a name of the first  videographer that springs to mind. I have a few professional guys that I hold in the highest regard and we always recommend each other, should one of us be booked. With this way of working, no couple will get the run around with different prices. I would never recommend someone I would not use my self.

Tomorrow  its back to work  with my first wedding of this mad busy time of year is in  Tipperary town tomorrow,  Tuesday is Inch near Thurles and then on to  Kilkenny and to the the fantastic Lyrath hotel.  And of course New Years eve is a very popular choice with couples all over Ireland Solohead just a few miles from me is where you will find me that day, its great to be local this time of year. I love the Christmas & New year weddings

While looking back on last year, Dundrum House Hotel In Tipperary which is with with great sadness has been damaged by fire earlier this year was one of my most visited wedding reception areas along with Clonmel Park Hotel   Hotel Minella, ClonmelHotel Kilkenny , New park hotel  Kilkenny  I also visited Cork, Waterford and Limerick. And I would like to thank all the hotels for their help on the day, and look forward to working in all the local hotels around Tipperary, Kilkenny and Carlow and the others again in 2016  So wherever you might be getting married, give me a call and I will give you the most competitive price you will find anywhere in Munster.

However, with every new year I try and create a new and unique way of crafting wedding videos and editing. Anyone  can give you a wedding video, but I try and make it that bit special. It’s this that has kept me ahead of other other “video guys “, while still offering a Professional Affordable and Unobtrusive service.   So, if you are planning your wedding for  this year, you’d better be quick and contact me now, or even for 2016/ 2017 as I am  being booked very fast. Also I got  many thank you cards over  Christmas from couples whose weddings I have filmed over the year, with 80%  of them from around Tipperary where most of my work is.  It’s great to get feedback from brides, it shows we are doing a great job and they enjoyed their wedding DVDs.

Wedding videography is a record of your day the way you would like it told, and along with our  camera skills and editing this can be achieved.  No wedding is the same and any videographer that goes out to do a job should never treat it like “yesterdays wedding” –  every couple has different ideas of what they think their wedding video should look and feel like and  I love to hear this, because it gives me a clear picture of what they are seeing.  When the day arrives I keep this in mind, and work to achieve it.

So Happy New year to you all. and If your planing on ” tieing the knot” or you know someone who is, give me a call I can guarantee you wont be disappoint  in price or quality   ( All photos  © Abbey Video)

finalist of the Mrs2Be Brides’ Choice Awards 2015

brides_choice_awards_finalist_fb_profile_360x360_2015_v2

Post by:  Abbey Video Productions

I got some fantastic news early this morning when I was informed I had reached the finals of the Mrs2Be Brides’ Choice Awards 2015 ( Recognising the best of the Irish wedding industry)! But as I said in an earlier blog it it’s not the winning for me … it would be nice, don’t get me wrong, but every wedding video I film whether it be in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow or any of the multitude of other locations I attend, I always give it 110%.  Every bride and groom has different ideas for their wedding video, it may be the music they choose or the way they want it filmed – each couple is unique.  So when i am booked for a wedding I put a lot of planning into it well before the day, this way from the bride’s house to the first dance I know what’s expected of me – after all, it’s their day.
Wedding Video Tipperary, Brides In Tipperary, wedding video Hotel Minella Clonmel, Kilkenny Brides, Wedding video Kilkenny, Wedding video Waterford, Brides In Munster, Tipperary wedding news, wedding booking 2015 ,wedding videography, wedding video Fethard Tipperary, wedding video Lisronagh, wedding video DranganThe guests arriving is a very important part of filming as this is something the bride only gets to see on DVD later.  The music in the church, the service, the vows, the walk down the aisle as husband & wife – these are all key points. With regards to the music in the Church, I like to leave a wireless microphone or a professional voice recorder near the musicians  to capture the audio 100%.  Sound is just as important as picture, this is why I always use a wireless mic or voice recorder discreetly placed in the groom’s pocket to pick up the vows and this is removed right away outside the door after the ceremony.  The greeting line is a great way to formally meet your guests after the wedding. The bride’s house is a great place to start filming, with all the make-up and the hair being done it can be great fun.  It’s a part of the day the groom doesn’t get to see so it’s nice for him to be able to view this later on their finished wedding DVD.  The groom’s house sometimes gets filmed but this all depends on timing on the day, as i like to be at the ceremony location one hour before it starts – this time is needed to film the location, the flowers and all the little details in the Church or room where the ceremony is taking place.
The photograph session is a fantastic opportunity for me to capture some great video footage.  I don’t just film what the photographer is doing but more of a candid covering of the bridal party and their families if they are there as well. If not I will capture them at the hotel. I enjoy filming the guests discreetly in the hotel enjoying the drinks reception, this way i get a great chance to catch up with some late-comers!  From there on I film the speeches, which lately tend to take place before the meal – it’s nice to relax and enjoy your meal once they are over and done with!  The dancing is filmed discreetly with no light if possible or just a small light on the camera if I need it.  Your wedding will end with a highlights chapter looking back over your day.
Brides In Munster, irish wedding videographer, munster wedding video, Tipperary Wedding News, Wedding DVD Cashel, Wedding Video North Tipperary, Wedding Videographer Thurles, Wedding Videos TipperaryWe have often been complimented on our turn-around time – we try to have the finished product ready when the couple return from honeymoon. I have read and heard of other couples not receiving their wedding DVDs for months, this can happen where only one person is working on a project and gets snowed under. It doesn’t end there… now the hard work starts!  The editing can take two days to to complete, but my wife Breda is a pro at this: various effects, titles, adding music, authoring and chaptering the final product, testing design sleeves for the covers of the boxes and the art work on the discs – it’s easy to see where two days goes here!

On a final note, getting back to the Mrs2Be Brides’ Choice Awards 2015, I would like to wish all the Finalists the very best of luck.

Wedding Video Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh CoTipperary

Wedding Video at Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, Co Tipperary    ( Post By Abbey Video )

It’s great  to have a wedding video on a Thursday in March, and a local one at that!  Kilcommon Church was my booking, and what a cold place it was. But for Mari & Raymond it was a perfect day … it was their wedding day.  A quick call to Mari’s house on the way to the Church was my first stop.  The girls were rushing around with make up, hair dryers, the works! I knew this was going to be a fun filled wedding day right away, and it was! I left Mari’s house to head to the church to capture the guys at the church but found them at a different type of establishment, with Guinness written over the door!  Having filmed all the little details that Mari & Raymond had organised for the inside of the Church I went on to film the large number of family and friends arriving.

Mari arrived on time along with her bridesmaids in a party bus, which was a great surprise for all. Raymond and the lads were already in their places at the top of the Church getting some good advice from Fr Dan Woods! Mari and her dad made their way up the aisle to a wonderful greeting from Raymond, and Fr Dan gave a lovely meaningful  service as usual, quick to the the point.

The wonderful Abbey Court Hotel was our stop for the evening, and who better than Ray to make everyone so welcome. I find Ray Lynch, the Wedding Co-ordinator, so helpful on the day of a wedding not only to the guests, but also to all the wedding suppliers. Ray has always been great to me recommending my video services to brides and grooms for quite a few years.  The Abbey Court Hotel is also listed on my sister site BRIDES IN MUNSTER along with a short video showcasing the hotel.

After some  video footage of the guests mingling and the photo shoot, it was time to film this wonderful hotel’s function room. I love to film the little details on the tables and any other personal and guest orientated details. The speeches were carried out before the meal which i think is a fantastic idea, as it allows the speakers to enjoy their meal knowing that the speeches are over and done with.

Their band for the evening was “Atomik Chicken” and from the first dance they had the floor full all night. Best wishes to Mari & Raymond, as i said it was a fun-filled wedding enjoyed by all including myself  🙂  A  big thank you for having Abbey Video Productions capture your special day.

Eimear Lowth Wedding Soloist Tipperary

( A post by Abbey Video Productions)

Well here in Tipperary and Kilkenny we are well and truly into the Wedding video season again for  the new year.  Like all other wedding suppliers I come across lots of fantastic professionals along the way, and one that springs to mind is Eimear Lowth from Boherlahan in County Tipperary.  I meet Eimear at lots of weddings in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Waterford, and of course all the local churches near Cashel. At one such wedding which I filmed  only 2 weeks ago Eimear was the official soloist and the applause of the wedding guests showed how much they loved her singing. After the Church Eimear went to the reception to entertain the guests as they mingled and enjoyed themselves at the hotel, she really got them going with some great songs and music that was well suited to the age group that was attending the wedding. Have  a look below at the clip I recorded of her at that wedding………

Eimear is a trained classical singer but also sings traditional Irish and modern music.  She is a very keen person and is passionate about her music.  Eimear pays great detail to the needs of all her wedding clients, helping plan and arrange the perfect church wedding music, music that best suits each couples personal tastes. Whether it’s music for a wedding service, funeral service, civil ceremony or pre-dinner drinks function, Eimear will be delighted to discuss your requirements with you.  So if you have an up-coming wedding function drop her an e-mail at  eimearlowth@gmail.com before she’s booked!  Eimear is also listed on the very popular wedding supplier site Brides In Munster covering Tipperary- Kilkenny and all of Munster, soon to be country wide! Keep a check and like my Facebookpage as more videos of Eimear will be on line soon, and of course Brides in MunsterFacebook page for the best choice of wedding suppliers  in Tipperary and Kilkenny
