Wedding Entertainment

John Frawley EntertainmentAs a full-time freelance musician based in Limerick, Ireland, John divides his time as a husband and father with his Singing Character acts, his band “Two Easi” and his ever-popular one man show.
John’s background lies in stage acting and performance (Island Theatre Company) and included appearances on Television and Radio alike. He relies heavily on this experience when performing as a musician and is always conscious of entertaining and engaging with his audience. His professional musicianship has taken him all over the country and John has been lucky enough to play venues such as Dolans Warehouse, Limerick (The Lollygaggers), The Savoy, Cork (Greenday tribute band “American Idiots”) and to sing at weddings in Slane Castle and Adare Manor (Final Touch).

Are you getting married and looking for something special for your big day? Looking for a personal touch or something unique? Johnny, The Singing Chef, just loves to surprise people with his vocal talents.Masquerading as the Hotel’s Head Chef Johnny moves around the room ensuring that all are happy with their meal and service. He takes to the microphone to address the crowd and thank them on behalf of the venue for their custom. He hopes they are enjoying the meal he has worked so hard to prepare and becomes quite emotional about how happy he is that you and your guests are so happy, so happy in fact that he bursts into song; yes, you’ve guessed it – “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.

From that point on it’s a roller-coaster ride of modern and classic songs with built in audience participation and interaction which not only breaks the ice but also sets the perfect party atmosphere in the room for the rest of the night.

Questions To Ask Your Wedding Photographer:

Questions To Ask Your Wedding Photographer:

Questions To Ask Your Wedding Photographer:

Over the years of working withphotographers at weddings here inTipperary and all over Ireland I have found that 90% of photographers really go above the call of duty on the day but some don’t!  So it is well worth while to ask them a few questions; it’s like booking a wedding videographer – make sure you view some work they have done.  When a bride makes an enquiry to me at Abbey Video for wedding videography I try and match a sample of the ceremony with where they are getting married and also the hotel they are planning to use on their wedding day. This way they can see for themselves what it might look like on their wedding day and get a feel for it.

So you need to ask your photographer have you ever shot a wedding at the venue location before.

Style is a huge part of photography in my view.  Are they going to be posed & formal, relaxed, photojournalistic, candid, traditional or reportage.

Will you receive  both  colour and black and white prints?  Colour of course goes without saying but black and white is also a must as it has that timeless look about it.

Will you have backup equipment available – very important as well.

Now a dodgy one!… Can other people take photos while you are taking photos?  Some photographers don’t like people standing behind them covering all the well posed shots.  Sometimes this can make his job more difficult as guests can be calling out to the bridal party and this  might upset the pose he has set up, that’s why they often take the bridal party away to a location and let the guests off to the hotel.
How many photos come in each package is also a good thing to know!

Should the event last longer than scheduled, will you stay?  Extra charge?  This is like asking how long is a piece of string – while most weddings are roughly the same run time,  some couples like their photographer to stay to photograph the speeches or even in later times the dancing so it’s worth asking them this.

Do you have liability insurance?  This is a must as well – should you wish to have your photos taken in an OPW site like the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, Kilkenny Castle and a lot more, your photographer must have insurance.  Without it you don’t get to have your photos inside the site.

Can you give them a list of specific photos you want taken.

How long after your wedding will the proofs be ready – again this is worth asking as during busy times this can take a few weeks / months.

Do they provide a written contract?

Do they charge you for travel ?

Is a deposit required?  If so, how much?

When is the remaining balance after deposit due?

Are there any additional charges not mentioned?

What time will you arrive?

I think experience in wedding photography is the most important point that should be asked before hiring a photographer.  Anyone can grab a camera, go out and take photographs of a flower or a field but a wedding day is totally different!    Hope this little bit of knowledge is helpful  for you     ~ Joe

The Stag do

The Stag do

As a Wedding videographer here in Tipperary, you would be surprised the things I get asked from Brides and Grooms in and around Tipperary and Munster about weddings – well after all I have been to a few!  Things like of course wedding videos, photography, flowers, wedding cakes, even stag-dos, well here’s simple dos and don’ts before you say I do!

Ok let’s start somewhere

Been given the responsibility to plan the stag do? But fairly sure that you’re going to make a mess of it? You might, but who’s going to notice after 24 large bottles?  Don’t worry – stag nights might take some planning, but it’s all manageable.

Talk to the groom-to-be

I think every guy has an idea of his dream stag night well before they plan to get married. Ask  him what he wants from his – let it be it a weekend away, an adventure day and a piss-up or a quiet night in the local pub or hotel. It’s much easier to work from his ideas. And do remember that it’s not your stag night you’re planning – it’s all for yer mans benefit.

OK, who’s going ?

Ask the groom-to-be to think about whom he’d like to see at the stag do and work out a list of between 10 and 20 key people.  Try and keep it to proper friends – any more than 20 is too many, any less and he needs to get out and meet more people!

Dingle, a great place for a stag-do

Think about whether the bride’s father, brother etc should be on that bus as it may change the dynamic of the group and the bride’s father might not be on talking terms with the groom on the day of the wedding – you can always arrange a separate affair for family.  On this issue a lot depends on how you and the groom think the various friend circles will link up.

Make contact with the guys in plenty of time

Check who’s going and make sure they will go when the time comes.  Don’t use Facebook to invite or you might need 10 busses in the end!  When you make contact ask them do they have any ideas of what could be good fun to get up to…. Be careful of some of their ideas of good fun!

Look into the options – think outside the box

With the stag’s opinions on board and some of the guys ideas too, ask Google.  Look into the options out there – there are some really great hotels, both in Ireland and the UK or further afield if you wish and if the few euros can be stretched that far.

If you want an activity weekend, look into paintballing, go-karting and think of some quirky alternatives too.  Make the final decision, but do ask the groom.

A stag-do should be close to the wedding but not so close that he needs to be helped into his clothes the morning of the wedding and carried up the aisle!  Stag-dos the night before the wedding are a bad idea.  Weeks before the big day, pitch them to the group and sort a date.

Who’s going to mind the money

It’s a good idea to set up a fund to pay for stag-related activities as in the bingo books, the tea and biscuits and the taxi home from the last mass! …….  You can be sure there’ll be one person in the group who’s good with money, you know the one who’s always missing when it’s his round at the bar!  Appoint him as treasurer.

You don’t have to be a nanny!

Looking after a large group is a pain in the bum, they’re all grown men, but you’ll be shocked at how many of them forget passports. Don’t get stuck being the one responsible for them.

Fun and games (and maybe strippers)!

If you’re going to pull a prank on the groom, make it good.  Plan it behind his back with the other party-goers to ensure success.  If you’re hiring a stripper, remember to phone the venue to check whether they’ll allow her to do her stuff on the premises. The key to a good stag prank is to make it happen.

Dress up

It’s common for stags to mark themselves out with some kind of themed dress code.  Whether you’re going for matching T-shirts or Ghostbusters costumes, some planning will be required. Do remember that matching clothes mark you out instantly as a stag party, which may make it tricky to get in certain places.  And on a related note, if you’re planning to hit venues that insist on shoes, make sure that everyone in the party knows and dresses accordingly.

Plan your venues

You might even get great bargains out there.  ALWAYS ASK FOR GROUP DISCOUNTS. Do it with a smile on your face and you’ll be amazed what you can get offered.

Be responsible

You may be planning some pranks for the groom on his big night, but remember that, ultimately, you want him to get home in one piece. Or maybe you want him to get home wearing a one-piece. Either way, he’ll thank you for stepping in if the fun goes too far. But leave him with his eye brows, hair on his head or anywhere else!

When its all over, and the wedding day is within reach, it’s a good idea for the groom and the best man and the groomsmen go for a quiet drink (and I mean a quiet drink), to reflect on the stag-do have a laugh and look forward to the big day.

Most importantly – HAVE FUN GUYS!

Editing and Behind the scenes at Abbey Video.

If you have read my previous posts, you’ll know that I am a very well established wedding videographer working throughout Tipperary and Munster. If this is your first time visiting my blog, hello and welcome!

Well, this is a blog post I have been dying to share, as now I want to tell you all about editing and my recent investment to ensure I can produce the finest wedding videos in all of Munster. The actual filming of a wedding amounts to only half of the work involved in creating a beautiful wedding video. My wife and I will spend approximately two days editing your wedding video in order to create beautiful, synchronised footage.

I mentioned in an earlier post how I travelled to London for the annual BVE camera show, a large affair attended by industry experts from all over the world. At the show I purchased two new cameras, both are top of the range, full HD, small and compact, allowing me to float discreetly in and around the wedding party. I’m sure you’re wondering why I need two cameras. Well, on a very important day like your wedding day, I like to be prepared for the unexpected and have a back-up camera in the highly unlikely event that anything should go wrong. Along with the new cameras, I purchased something I’m very excited about – new class-leading editing software called Adobe Premier Creative Cloud 7.01. It has received rave reviews and is widely regarded by industry experts as the hottest, must-have for videographers.

Editing software is constantly evolving. As a wedding videographer and to survive in this competitive industry, it’s essential for me to stay at the top of my game. I purchased Adobe Premier alongside a monthly subscription so I will receive constant software updates as the software evolves.

I’ve spent a few weeks exploring the functionality and intricacies of this software and I am in agreement with the field experts. I’m very pleased with the wedding DVDs filmed in Tipperary recently. (Please play the video to see the results). This new software is my favourite to date. It boasts many new enhancements and additions on previous software from adobe, but I’ll try to only mention a few and not bore you with too much technical jargon! The real beauty of this software is it gives me, the videographer, even greater control and influence over the final finish. It gives me greater control over the audio as I can more accurately synchronize segments of footage. Synchronizing clips which have been filmed from different angles can be tricky, given that they have different sounds and noise levels. Adobe Premier allows me to analyse the noise volume and type of noise, so these clips can be joined and synchronized smoothly.

Adobe Premier has continued another great feature called Speed grade. With this I have enhanced control and can create and add special effects to your film to create different styles and finishes. I can make subtle changes to colour and tone. This is incredibly useful, when a wedding is filmed on a dull day, colours can be subtly enhanced to create the impression of a warmer, radiant day. This is a great feature, given the unpredictable nature of our Irish weather. Speed grade can also be used to create a very romantic and atmospheric ambiance by adding sepia or soft filters to soften the edges.

Should you come across a wedding video you find appealing because of a distinctive look or the way it has been stylised, chat to me about it and I’m confident I can achieve the same effect, or as could well be the case, it could be very similar to a wedding video I have already produced myself. The possible effects vary hugely, however I feel natural and gentle effects are the most suitably for a wedding video and DVD. At the end of the day it is all a matter of personal taste, which it should be in order to create a unique DVD, personal to you as a couple.

In order to create your unique wedding video, there are many aspects of the editing which will draw on your own creativity and choices, such as –

Do you want the entire speeches in the video or just highlights?

What type of graphics would you like to introduce the speakers or the celebrant?

What are your music choices?

Would you like segments of footage to be overlaid with music?

Are there segments you would like to see in slow motion?

Would you like a photo montage towards the end to include everyone who was involved on the day?

So there you have it. There is lots of fun editing for me and lots to think about for you. Do have fun when deciding what type of wedding DVD you envisage for yourselves. I am here to discuss the options, help with decisions and make suggestions about what I think will work best.

With your ideas and my expertise, together we can create a wonderful and unique wedding DVD to remember your wedding day.

If you have any questions at all, please get in touch or we can meet for a chat to discuss your ideas. I’m based in Cashel, Co. Tipperary.
